Heat Pumps

View heat pumps

The heat pump system for pools works like a conventional air conditioner. In this case, instead of heating the air, it heats the pool water.

It is a thermodynamic system that operates very simply. It consists of transferring energy in the form of heat from one environment (air) to another (water). This process is generated through the change of state from gas to liquid of a refrigerant fluid by means of ambient temperature and with the help of a compressor.

This makes heat pumps a truly economical option compared to other pool heating systems.

It should also be noted that heat pumps are an easy-to-install system that only requires electrical and hydraulic connections. They can be installed in newly built pools or existing pools. There are various models and they are chosen according to the characteristics of the pool, but certain peculiarities related to available space, region, or pool usage must be taken into account.

At Outlet Pool we have a wide catalogue of heat pumps for pools, featuring various models and the best brands on the market: Zodiac, Poolex, Hayward, Astralpool, Fairland, etc.

Electric Heaters

Another alternative for heating pool water is electric heaters. These heating systems consist of electric resistors that heat up through the current. Their operation is simple: cold water circulates through the resistor, heating up and returning to the pool.

They have a thermostat that will stop the heater once the pool water reaches the desired temperature previously programmed.

Electric pool heaters are one of the fastest heating systems for pool water. They are simple, compact, and easy to install. They have high efficiency but somewhat high consumption, so they are usually used for small pools or secondary residences.

Heat Exchangers

Heat exchangers for pools are very interesting products for pool heating. They are designed to transfer heat from an indoor heating system to the pool water. Therefore, it is a great alternative for cases where the domestic heating is located near the pool and has sufficient power.

It is essential to have a boiler located near the pool's technical room. However, it should be noted that the type of boiler will not be decisive. Heat exchangers work without problems with oil boilers, gas boilers, or even heat pumps. The only thing to consider is that the power is sufficient.

If the power is not adequate, the heat exchanger could only be used when the house interior is not heated. Also, if there is no proximity between the boiler and the pool, heat losses may occur, resulting in lower efficiency.

At Outlet Pool you can find different heat exchangers at good prices and for all types of pools. Additionally, it is important to know that their installation is quite simple compared to other pool heating systems.

Solar Heating

One of the most ecological and even economical ways to heat pool water is solar heating. Due to its ecological profile, it is increasingly present in our installations. In this case, it involves integrating a circuit with one or more solar energy panels. The sun heats these panels, which then transfer this heat to the pool water.

It is a very interesting heating system for small above-ground pools. However, there are also models capable of heating larger in-ground pools.

Its installation is very simple, and the panels can be removed during summer. If large panels are chosen, they can also be protected with a cover during months when heating is not necessary.

It should be noted that the efficiency of this system will greatly depend on the climate where it is installed and the hours of sunlight it receives per day. Not all locations have optimal climatic conditions to take advantage of a solar heating system.

Dehumidifiers

Dehumidifiers for pools are not a heating system per se. However, they are devices that help prevent the condensation process of moisture generated when heating a pool. By controlling this process, it prevents moisture from depositing on walls and other surfaces and forming water droplets.

Dehumidifiers prevent the creation of stuffy environments and deterioration over time of the room and equipment.

By eliminating condensation, we improve the wellbeing and comfort of bathers thanks to the absence of steam, better breathing, and the elimination of germs that can be produced by excess humidity. When choosing a pool dehumidifier model, aspects such as pool surface area, room volume, water and air temperature, pool activity, etc., must be considered.

How to install a heating system in our pool

As we can see, there are many different options to heat a pool. Each of these systems has a different installation; installing a heat pump is not the same as installing a solar panel.

However, all these systems have something in common; regardless of how they are installed, they must always be installed after the filtration system, as the water must first pass through the pool filter before reaching the heat source.

Benefits of having a pool heating system

The advantages of using a pool heating system are several:

Extended swimming season:

Thanks to heating systems, the swimming season will not be limited only to hot summer days. We can use our pool from April to October.

Make the pool more profitable:

We cannot deny that a heated pool optimises its use much more.

Thus, the expense on heating systems becomes an investment in wellbeing.

Additionally, these heating systems add value to the property.

Which heating system to choose for my pool?

Heating a pool allows us to enjoy it for longer and have a more pleasant feeling on days when the sun hides.

We can choose among four ways to heat our pool water: heat pump, electric heater, solar panels, and heat exchanger.

How to choose the right heating system for each pool?

For main residence pool

For main residences, the heat pump is the most suitable system in any region due to its profitability. The pool water will increase by one or two degrees per day from the start. Generally, an initial heating week is needed for the temperature to rise about ten degrees. This is the system with the slowest temperature increase, but once it reaches the desired temperature, the heat pump maintains it continuously and very economically.

Solar heating via panels can be chosen, but the region must be sunny enough because heating depends on sunlight. In this case, it should be noted that it is not possible to have water at 25 °C if the ambient temperature is 15 °C.

For secondary residence pool

The electric heater is the most used system for secondary residences. It raises the water temperature very quickly although its electricity consumption is quite high. Since secondary homes are used occasionally, we need a system that offers good performance on those specific days.

If the house boiler is efficient, the heat exchanger can be a solution to heat the pool water. The temperature increase can be done in 24 or 48 hours, depending on the boiler's performance.

Above-ground pool

For an above-ground or elevated pool, the heating that best fits is probably the solar heating kit, due to its cost and simplicity of application, although we will always be at the mercy of the weather and, of course, whether the sun decides to appear.

Currently, there are also very economical heat pump models designed for the reduced volume of this type of pool that will allow us to forget about the weather and heat our pool very economically.

Most economical pool heating systems

The most economical are solar heating and heat pumps for pools. These two heating methods use energy optimally and efficiently. However, when purchased, the heat pump is the most expensive. Solar heating, depending on installation needs, remains more affordable, although it always depends on the weather.

The electric heater and heat exchanger are less costly to buy, but the heater can significantly increase the energy bill, and the exchanger is only effective if the boiler is efficient and will be more or less economical depending on the boiler's operation mode, gas, fuel, etc.

Whatever pool heating method is chosen, the pool must be covered with a summer cover, safety cover, slatted shutter, or automatic pool cover. Any of these covers will prevent heat dissipation from the water to the air, thus maintaining the temperature inside the pool.
