What are Filtration Packs?

The filtration system, composed of a pump and filter, is responsible for removing debris and dirt particles present in the water. By reducing the percentage of molecules to be oxidised, it is likely that the amount of disinfectant needed will decrease. What are the essential elements of the Filtration System?
Suction Pump
The suction pump is one of the most important components of the filtration system. Its function is to draw water and direct it towards the filter. Once the filtration process is complete, it pumps the water back into the pool.
Pumps have an electric motor that spins the turbine inside the hydraulic system to propel the water with the necessary force to complete the cleaning cycle. This motor can be single-phase, ideal for a private pool, or three-phase, for a public pool with much larger dimensions. Therefore, the pump must have greater flow power and will need to be connected to a higher capacity electrical network.

The pump sets the water intake rate and, therefore, the time it takes to complete a full cleaning cycle. Filter

Sand filter.
It is the most common and widely used in recent years due to its Quality-Price ratio. Inside its tank, the natural filtering agent is sand, which retains the dirt in the water. Sand boasts a great filtering capacity as it is a natural element with high porosity. This model also works with other types of filtering materials, such as glass.
This type of filter requires little maintenance due to its structure and innovative design. It has an approximate lifespan of 10 years, provided the necessary care is taken, although it is advisable to replace it with a new model every 7 years. This ensures the filter works at maximum efficiency and provides the cleanest possible water.
To guarantee maximum performance of the filtration system, the pump and filter must work together. It is important that they operate in unison, without one outperforming the other, as this could cause serious damage:
A pump with excessive flow for the filter would cause the latter to be unable to filter the water at the speed set by the pump.
If the filter has a very large diameter for the amount of water it receives, the filtration process will not be carried out properly due to excess space inside the tank.
Type of filtering material
The filtering material is the element placed inside the filter tank. Its function is to retain the suspended particles carried by the water when it enters the filter. When choosing material, there are two market-leading options for filtering agents: Silica sand and Glass. Both are very effective but have different properties and lifespans.

Silica sand
Sand is a natural element with a porous composition as its grains have an irregular shape. Its effectiveness lies in its ability to retain dirt particles within its pores. However, due to constant friction, the sand wears down, reducing its filtering capacity.
Despite grain erosion, it has a fairly long useful life of approximately 5 years. However, its lifespan depends on multiple factors such as water quality, chemical treatment used, water pH level, and the number of filtration cycles performed daily…
It is a very attractive product due to its Quality – Price ratio. Although silica sand is less effective than glass, it fulfills its purpose of cleaning the water remarkably and offers fantastic results.
Active AFM glass
Glass is a relatively new product as a filtering material. It is manufactured to replace sand and offer higher performance. Active AFM glass is obtained from processing pure green and brown glass particles of metallic oxides. Its particles have the perfect shape and size to guarantee the hydraulic properties necessary to achieve optimal filtration levels.
This smooth-surfaced material ensures that water is not returned to the pool without prior filtration. Its great functionality guarantees a very low level of residues in the water, so the molecules to be oxidised by chlorine are very few. This means the disinfectant product present in the water will be greatly reduced, contributing to healthier water and a safer swim for people.
It has a really long useful life, similar to that of the filter, about 10 years. Therefore, purchasing glass, although it is a more expensive product than sand, represents a long-term economic saving and a crystal-clear pool.
