Reviews of Flat LED Spotlights
What are flat LED spotlights?
Flat LED spotlights are those spotlights whose back part is flat. Since there is no need to make holes in the pool wall, they do not require installation or special tools for fitting.
In these spotlights, the entire electrical mechanism is located at the back, but in a very compact space. This allows them to have a flat closure. A trim surrounds this area. Everything is completely sealed in a watertight manner.
They can be found in different types of light, both white light and RGB.
But within flat LED spotlights, there are two types, which differ from each other by the type of installation:
Cross-shaped flat LED spotlights
These spotlights come with a cross-shaped piece. Hence, they are known as cross-shaped spotlights. This piece is placed at the back of the spotlight. It serves to screw the lights onto the pool wall. Once it is fixed to the wall, only a small hole is needed to pass the electrical cable through.
Cross-shaped flat LED spotlights are a good option for built pools that do not have the installation for PAR56 spotlights and have difficulties carrying it out. For these cases, where only passing a cable is required, they are a fantastic option.
Nozzle flat LED spotlights
These spotlights require a piece for their installation. It is a wall pass-through piece. It can also be found under the acronym PN10. It is very similar to a niche. This piece is a nozzle that functions as a wall pass-through to go through the pool wall. The nozzle is glued, and the spotlight screws into this piece.
Nozzle flat LED spotlights are usually used in steel pools or new build pools that want a wall pass-through installation.
In short, both types of spotlights are designed to be installed in pools that do not have the installation for PAR56 spotlights. If this is our case, we simply need to consider which type of installation we prefer. Both spotlight models are made from very resistant materials. Resistant to heat, possible impacts, and chemical products for water treatment. All models have a completely watertight design. And most importantly, with flat LED spotlights we benefit from all the advantages of LED technology:
Low consumption.
Cool lighting: spotlights that do not burn.
Powerful and clear illumination.
Long lifespan.
Different types of light: white light, cool light, warm light, and RGB.
Customisation to our liking, thanks to its multiple options.
Durability.
Energy and eco-efficiency.
No light pollution that bothers the eyes.
Competitive price.
Constant technological improvements.
Advantages and disadvantages of flat LED spotlights
Advantages
The main advantage is their simple installation. It does not require much work, nor is it necessary to have specific tools. Everything needed for installation comes included with the spotlight. Another advantage is their price. They are very economically competitive spotlights. Not forgetting that they can be installed in all types of pools: in-ground and above ground. Also in different materials: concrete, fibre, liner, etc.
Disadvantages
To choose the best option, we need to have all the information, so knowing what might be disadvantages a priori is important. Because perhaps a disadvantage could be exactly what we need. In this case, we must consider that flat LED spotlights are not recessed into the pool wall. This means they do not sit completely flush with the wall; a small part will always protrude. On the other hand, if we need to change the spotlight, we have to replace the entire unit; we cannot change just the lamp.
In which pools can flat LED spotlights be installed?
Undoubtedly, this is another of their great advantages: flat LED spotlights can be used in all types of pools: above ground and in-ground. There are models that can be used in pools made of different materials: concrete, fibre, liner, or Gre wood.
How are flat LED spotlights installed?
As we have already said, there are two installation models:
Its installation is simple. It is done using a cross-shaped piece that comes with the spotlight. It is placed behind the spotlight and screwed to the pool wall. Once this simple installation is done, only a hole is needed to pass the electrical cable through.
Nozzle
These flat LED spotlights require a piece very similar to a niche. This piece is called a nozzle. It can also be found as PN10. It functions as a wall pass-through. This piece is glued, and the spotlight screws into it.
In short, flat LED spotlights can be recognised because their back part is flat. They do not require installation or specific tools to fix them. They are ideal for pools that do not have the installation for PAR56 spotlights and only want to make a simple hole for the electrical wiring.
